Okay, so the actual suggestion was that Tiger should convert from Buddhism to Christianity, which is only slightly less ridiculous.
"Tiger Woods will recover as a golfer. Whether he can recover as a person, I think, is a very open question. And it's a tragic situation with him, I think. He's lost his family. It's not clear to me whether he'll be able to have a relationship with his children. But the Tiger Woods that emerges once the news value dies out of this scandal, the extent to which he can recover, seems to me to depend on his faith.
"He's said to be a Buddhist. I don't think that faith offers the kind of forgiveness and redemption that is offered by the Christian faith. So my message to Tiger would be, 'Tiger, turn to the Christian faith and you can make a total recovery and be a great example to the world.' " [via Media Matters]
I think it's safe to say that Brit Hume knows next to nothing about Buddhism, so this advice basically boils down to 'hey Tiger, you should definitely become Christian because Jesus will like, totally forgive you for everything, and that Buddha guy will probably just make you meditate a lot'. To me there also seems to be a hint of racism here, like Brit thinks he's just helping this misguided non-white guy with his silly Asian religion by encouraging him to see the light.
If Brit really feels like there's something to this theory of his, maybe he can adapt it a little for some of his conservative friends. Let's encourage John Ensign, Mark Sanford, David Vitter, Newt Gingrich, Bill O'Reilly, Larry Craig, Mark Foley, and the other members of The Brotherhood of the Disappearing Pants to convert from Christianity to Buddhism and then back to Christianity again, just so they can get a fresh burst of Jesus's Superior Forgiveness Power. It would be a great way to start off the new year, or they just try it out between scandals. Just something to think about.

What Brit doesn't realize is that it isn't Buddhism failing Tiger, it's Tiger failing Buddhism.
I was reading this article out loud to my husband (it was Jesus as PR guy that reeled me in) and when I got to The Brotherhood of the Disappearing Pants, I laughed out loud. I needed a moment to recover and thought, well, you ladies have really done it this time - that was great.
Then I realized that it was a link and I clicked.
A book.
A real book.
I wish I knew about this for Christmas. Perfect for under the...tree.
Can I also add that I really agree with what Astaroth said.
Yes, it's a real book, and it's hilarious. I also have to recommend the other two books by the same authors - Sweet Jesus, I Hate Bill O'Reilly and Fair and Balanced, My Ass!
