We don't usually post music videos on the blog unless they're related to some specific event, like World AIDS Day. But I love this song from Robyn's new album (remember her, the Show Me Love girl? Ah, the 90s. Well, she's all grown up now.) and I think she's awesome and fun and the song's got a great evil slutty message, so I wanted to share.
The song is called "Who's That Girl?", and it's basically about that image of the 'good girl' that us young women are supposed to try to live up to--beautiful but not too unique, sexy but not too slutty but not too unavailable either, perky and outgoing but not too aggressive or ambitious or bitchy. And you know what? Fuck that. Really. "I know there's no such girl", so I'm just going to be me instead.
The full lyrics are here for anyone who can't watch the video. But I always wanted a chance to pretend to be a melodramatic emo teenager by posting song lyrics on my blog, so here's just a part:
Good girls are pretty like all the time
I'm just pretty some of the time
Good girls are happy and satisfied
I won't stop asking until I die
Good girls don't say no or ask you why
I won't let you love me, until you really try
Good girls are sexy like every day
I'm only sexy when I say it's okay
Feel free to leave your favorite evil slutty music in comments. We love making mix CDs.
